Abstract

669,294. Counting-apparatus. CO-OPERATIVE PRESS, Ltd. Feb. 27, 1950 [April 11, 1949], No. 9798/49. Class 106 (i). Counting-apparatus for indicating or record. ing the total impulses arriving over lines X connected, for example, to output counting contacts of a number of machines operating simultaneously, comprises a condenser 10 associated with each of the lines and arranged to be charged by the arrival of an impulse, and sequentially operating means for collecting the charges and transmitting corresponding impulses to a totalizing counter. In the apparatus shown, impulses on the lines X energize corresponding count relays a1-a6, normally open contacts 3, 4 of which then apply positive feed, through resistances 11, to the corresponding condensers 10. The sequentially operating means comprises a chain of relays b1-b12 with changeover contacts 19 or 22 adapted to switch positive feed to the individual relays in sequence. Alternate relays b1, b3, &c. are the collecting relays and have lower change-over contacts 19 for discharging the respective condensers 10 through a first totalizer relay e. The intermediate relays b2, b4, &c. are introduced to separate the actions of the collecting relays. All the relays are shunted by retarding condensers and have series current-limiting resistances. Alternative condensers 48 may be switched across the relay b12 to adjust the time of operation of the chain. In operation, pulses arriving over the lines X energize the appropriate count relays a1-a6. An energized count relay closes contacts 3, 4 to charge its condenser 10 and opens contacts 1, 2 to interrupt positive feed to the relay chain. The charging current of the first condenser to charge passes to negative through a set relay d which energizes a chain control relay c, the latter holding over contacts 33, 34 and cutting out set relay d at contacts 35, 36. Main contacts 13, 14 of the relay c prepare the circuit of a chain start relay f, completed by closure of all the count relay contacts 1, 2, contacts 39, 41 of relay f then applying positive to the relay chain, relay b1 first becoming energized through all the contacts 15, 19 and 20, 22 and the remainder in sequence as the preceding contacts change over. As the collecting relays b1, b3, &c. operate in succession, their lower contacts 19 apply the condensers 10 in turn to the first totalizer relay e which controls a second totalizer relay g to apply a pulse for each charged condenser to the totalizer circuit Y.
