Abstract

947,567. Counters; coin sorting apparatus. RESTELLO A. B. Sept. 14,1962 [Sept. 14, 1961], No. 35124/62. Headings G4D and G4X. Coins of different value are stored in corresponding hoppers as they are sorted, a coin being ejected from the bottom of each hopper containing coinage by means of sliding pushers working in unison and each coin so ejected actuating a contact to operate a relay corresponding to the value of the coin. The pattern of relays so operated connects up a corresponding selection of impulse wheels which, in one revolution before the next batch of coins is ejected, generate units, tens, and hundreds pulses to register the value of the coins additively on a five stage decade counter. The speed of counting may be increased threefold to clear coins when all but at least two or three of the hoppers have been exhausted. The counter may employ decade relays or electronic tubes. Circuit. Main S is connected by way of switch S1 and reset relay O and a transformer Tr and rectifier L supplies D.C. for the relays. Coin sorting begins when the start button is pressed and relay AR connects up a motor M driving a coin separator. Counting begins when switch S2 is thrown to start motor T driving the impulse wheels and controlling the supply of coins from the hoppers in synchronism. Swedish 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 ore pieces are counted and as these are ejected from the hoppers they operate corresponding contacts K1 to K200. For any batch of coins, therefore, a corresponding number of the relays FR1 to FR7 operate and lock up over a contact P1 which is controlled by a cam wheel rotating with the impulse wheels. The relays FR1 to FR7 connect up a selection of contacts P3 to P11 which are controlled by the impulse wheels to pulse the units, tens, and hundreds decades of the counter R to add the value in ores of the coin batch. At the end of the revolution of the impulse wheels, contact P1 is broken to restore the operated ones of the relays FR1 to FR7 and a fresh batch of coins is delivered for evaluation in the next revolution. Push buttons Sn1 to Sn4 are provided which set the machine to accellerate when only 5 and 200, or 50 and 100, or 1, 2, and 10, or 25 ore pieces, respectively, remain in the hoppers. Each button Sn bridges contacts, in a chain of contacts over the relays FR1 to F7, corresponding to the coins it selects for accelerated counting. When all other contacts of the chain fail to break, indicating that all other hoppers are empty, a circuit is completed over contact P2 near the end of a pulse wheel revolution to energize relay HOR causing relay OR to follow. Relay OR connects motor M to drive at three times its normal speed and connects up pulse contacts P13 to P21 associated with impusing wheels which despite the higher speed at which they are driven produce pulses of the same length as hitherto to control the counter. Relays FR1 to FR7 in these circumstances are held over contacts P12 associated with a corresponding cam wheel rotating with the impulse wheels. Whenever a button Sn is pushed a relay TR disconnects motor T so that further coins are not delivered to the hoppers until they have been cleared. Zeroising counter. This is done from button ZS which brings up relay AR to disconnect the pulse contacts and connect up relays IMPR1 and IMPR2 which interact to pulse each decade over upper off-zero contacts for a period determined by the time taken for a slugged relay HAR to release.
