Abstract
669,291. Pneumatic tyre pressure gauges. TURNER, W., and ASKEW, G. March 23, 1950 [March 25, 1949], No. 8219/49. Class 106 (ii). In a fluid-pressure gauge of the kind in which fluid pressure from an inflated body moves a piston 8 in a cylinder 7 against the action of a spring 13 to move axially a graduated indicating member 17 which is wholly enclosed in a casing 2 closed by a head 3, the indicator 17 is of thimble form accommodated between the cylinder 7 and casing 2 and is acted on by means 12 resiliently anchored, to the cylinder and operable by the piston 8 to move it to indicating position where it is retained by resiliently yieldable supporting means 20 extending through the end wall of the indicator 17 to engage its walls with manipulable means at the same end of the casing for releasing the retaining means. The head 3 incorporates a resilient seating and sealing ring 4 for the tyre valve and a valve unseating pin 5 with a passage 6 communicating with the cylinder 7 and lateral and axial ports 26, 27 through which fluid pressure passes. The supporting means 20 comprises a U-shaped spring with two resilient fingers 20a and a loop 20b. A manually-operated push button 23 mounted in an end cap 9 has a coned inner end 25 for co-operating with converging parts 26 of the spring 20 to release its extremities 32 from the walls of the indicator 17. The outer casing 2 is preferably formed of transparent plastic and parts may be rendered opaque by applying colouring matter or by inserting a thin sleeve.
