668,450. Freezing liquids in films. SOC. ANON. DES ATELIERS ET CHANTIERS DE LA LOIRE. April 18. 1950 [Nov. 24. 1949; Feb. 2, 1950], No. 9478/50. Class 29 Liquids such as blood plasma and other biological liquids are frozen or congealed in thin films on the internal walls of externally-cooled vessels 1 each standing on a base 2 forming the rotor of a turbine or Pelton wheel, the stator 3 of which is fixed in a false bottom which forms a chamber 4 in a main tank 5 for coolant cooled by an evaporating coil 6, the coolant being forced by a pump into the chamber 4 to drive the turbine to rotate the vessels. The coolant. which may be alcohol, fills the tank 5 to the level of the necks of the vessels 1. In modifications the level of the coolant is below the bottoms of the vessels 1 and flows up a tube from the false bottom, the tube either having longitudinally spaced holes for spraying on to the vessel walls or leading into a top tank having a rimmed opening above each vessel so that coolant flows down the vessels' walls.
