Abstract
668,405. Aerating liquids. SADLER, A. L. (Carbonic Dispenser, Inc.). June 25, 1949, No. 16900/49. Class 86 Apparatus for aerating liquids wherein a liquid and a gas are fed into the interior of the tank through separate supply pipes opening into the said tank above the maximum level which the liquid reaches within the tank, in which a pump is provided in the liquid supply pipe for delivering the liquid under pressure to and through a nozzle so connected in the outlet end of the liquid supply pipe that the liquid is directed at an acute angle on to the bottom of the tank or the surface of any liquid in the tank, the pump being driven by a motor which is so controlled by a device responsive to the liquid level in the tank that the motor is started when the said level reaches a predetermined minimum and is stopped when the level reaches a predetermined maximum. As described, CO2 gas is supplied to the container 10 through a pressure regulating valve 20 and conduit 21 which contains a pressure relief valve 22. Water is injected into the tank through a nozzle 11 by a pump 17, a check valve 13 in the nozzle supply pipe 12 being provided to prevent gas from escaping through the water inlet piping. The nozzle 11 is inclined so that the water jet strikes the bottom of the tank or the water surface at an angle of less than 90 degrees to cause agitation of all the water in the tank. A pair of electrodes 32, 33 depend into the tank and are connected to the circuit of the electric motor 26 driving the pump 17 in such a manner as to open a contactor 27 to stop the motor when the water level rises to make contact with the shorter electrode 33: and to close the contactor 27 again when the water level falls to break contact with the longer electrode 32. A valve 18 is operated by a solenoid 39 connected in parallel with the motor 26 so as to be opened only when the motor is energized. Aerated water is withdrawn as required through the pipe 23.
