Abstract
668,183. Cathode-ray tube circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 24, 1950 [April 22, 1949], No. 10691/49. Class 37. [Also in Group XL (b)] In a cathode-ray tube beam deflecting circuit in which the deflecting coils are supplied with deflecting current from the secondary winding of a transformer, the winding is divided into two similar windings and means are provided for applying raster shift direct-current to the latter windings in such a manner that the current divides equally into the windings in opposing relationship so as to produce zero resultant magnetizing field. In the arrangement shown the deflecting coils 2 are connected across the " outer " ends of the two-secondary windings 4, 5, and the " inner " ends are connected together through a resistance 6 equal to the resistance 7, 8, of the deflecting coils so that two parallel paths of equal resistance exist between the " outer " end of winding 4 and the " inner " end of winding 5. When " shift " current is fed to these points (from source 9 and ganged potentiometers 11, 12, which move in opposite directions) equal and opposite currents flow in windings 4, 5, and zero magnetizing field is set up in the transformer. A choke coil 14, having an inductance which is large compared with that of the deflecting coils and a condenser 13 connected as shown, prevent deflecting current from passing into the source 9. The deflecting current source 1 may be the line or frame scanning waveform generator of a television system.
