Abstract

668,118. Pyrometers. HASE, R. Jan. 19, 1950, No. 1433/50. Class 97 (iii). In an optical pyrometer the optical system is so arranged that the observer's line of sight makes an angle, preferably a right angle, with the direction of incidence of the radiation from the object the temperature of which is being measured. As shown, a mirror 4 or prism or other optical element deflects the radiation from the objective lens 1 at right angles after passing through the colour and intensity adjusting wedges 2, 3 into the eye-piece 8 and a comparison lamp 13 is arranged behind the mirror in the observers line of sight and is visible as a mark 5. The lamp 13 together with an adjustable series resistance 19 is mounted in a sleeve 18 provided with an aperture 20 covered by an interchangeable colour filter, the lamp and resistance being connected into an electrical bridge circuit the indicating device 7 of which is disposed in the field of view. The scales 11 for reading the adjustments of the wedges 2, 3 are arranged on the surface 21 of the pyrometer casing which carries the eyepiece 8. The instrument may be supported by means of a strap 16 over the shoulders.
