Abstract
667,597. Castors. JOHNSON. W. J. S. Jan. 19, 1950. No. 1468/50. Class 52 (i). A castor for scaffolding comprises a wheel 1 on an axle 4 mounted in a U-shaped member 10 pivoted at 18 to a housing 17 on a spindle 27 rotatably mounted in a sleeve 31, the pivoted axis 18 being eccentric to the spindle 27 and the axle 4 so that the wheel 1 can be located for rotary and swivelling movement as shown in dot and dash lines or, by depression of the member 10, in the position shown in full lines with the axle 4 intersecting the axis of the spindle 27 to prevent swivelling. In this latter position the tyre 2 contacts the rear wall 26 of the housing 27 to prevent rotation of the wheel 1. The member 10 has pressed out parts 16, which, when the member 10 is raised, frictionally engage the walls of the housing 17. The scaffold pole is slipped over the sleeve 31 to rest on a shoulder 33 and is frictionally held by a longitudinally extending bulged-out part of the sleeve 31.
