Air filtering apparatus in which the filter parts are washed at intervals and reconditioned after drying by application of filter agent such as oil, comprises a spray system E for directing cleaning liquid on to filter units B and an electrically operated timer for intermittently closing a valve 67 to interrupt the liquid supply and for energizing the motor of a filter agent pump 59 after the lapse of a drying period to supply spray nozzles F. The filter units each comprise a metallic pad within a frame 20 removably mounted in a support C in vertical alignment or individually inclined as shown, e.g. in a set of three pairs. Handles 35 of each frame are engaged by the hook portion of a spring latch 36 on rails 30, 31 of the support, these rails being joined by partitions 40 which direct liquid draining from the filters to troughs 46 discharging at the side for collection in a catch basin G. Valve 67 and pump 59 are controlled by means of an electric circuit including switches operated by cams driven by a continuously-operating timer motor. On an excessive rise of temperature a thermostat 90 opens the pump motor circuit and a by-pass valve 92 in the water supply line normally kept closed by a fusible link is opened to ensure continuous delivery to spray nozzles E.
