Abstract

667,284. Frequency modulation. MORLE, C. W. (philco Corporation). Feb. 3, 1949, No. 2994/49. Class 40 (v). An oscillator adapted to oscillate at two different frequencies comprises two valves 1, 2, a common tank circuit having a tapped inductance 4 and condensers 5, 6 forming Hartley and Colpitts oscillator circuits with valves 1 and 2 respectively, and resistors 12, 13 in the cathode circuits of the valves acting to alter the resonant frequency of the tank circuit and oscillation frequency when the respective valve is conducting and the other cut off. The tank circuit may be earthed as shown at one side. The oscillators may be used as super-regenerative amplifiers and detectors of frequency modulated signals derived from an aerial 3 inductively coupled to the tank circuit, each oscillator being quenched alternately by a quench input from an oscillator 16 applied in push-pull to grid resistors 7b, 8b of the valves, the resonant frequency of the tank circuit lying alternately on opposite sides of the mean frequency of the signal. The detected signal is derived in push-pull from the anodes of 27, circuits 28, 29 by-passing quench frequency. A resonant choke 11 provides a low impedance D.C. path in the cathode circuit of the Colpitts oscillator. U.S.A. Specification 2,351,193 is referred to.
