Class 18 [Also in Groups VI, XI and XII] Spirally twisted paper &c. spills are made by drawing the innermost coil from a roll 3 of paper ribbon in a cylindrical box 1 through a nozzle-like passage 6 of a lid 4 whereby an elongated spiral is formed. The holder may contain a series of rolls with the outer end of each joined to the inner end of the succeeding one and the lowermost roll being seated over a compression spring. Access to a holder formed integrally with the nozzle is obtained in other forms through an open base having a resilient wire closure or a cap with a spring flange or bayonet joint. Other removable bases comprise a springy lid which snaps into an annular groove in the box or a lid with spaced peripheral lugs adapted to register with gaps in an annular groove and to be retained by rotation to cause the lugs to enter the groove. Another closure has spaced gaps for clearing rubber &c. feet which retain it in position after rotation. The bases may be apertured to facilitate gripping and permit entry of air for combustion of the spill. A waxed &c. thread may be wound with the ribbon or a core provided by a wick coiled below the roll. The ribbon may be impregnated with incense or a fumigant &c. A spring-loaded sleeve may be provided, projecting from the outlet and displaceable inwardly to expose fresh portion of ribbon after the spill has been burnt down to the sleeve. Toothed rollers, one of which is rotated by a finger knob, may grip and draw out the ribbon.
