A vehicle for delivering coal has a hopper shaped body with a shallow trough in the bottom supporting an endless belt which conveys the coal to an outlet at the rear, the body being divided into at least two compartments by a partition extending centrally and longitudinally of the body, each compartment has a plate to remove weight from the belt, the plates either being adjustable with respect to the side walls of the body or provided with adjustable apertures whereby coal is fed onto the belt at the required rate. The bottom of a lorry has a central trough I in which the upper run of a conveyer 2 travels. The body is divided transversely by plates 11 into compartments 12. To take the weight of coal or other material contained in the lorry from the conveyer, plates 13 are supported by a dividing plate 14 having screw threads 16 operating in a worm wheel actuated by worms secured on rods 17 and rotated by hand wheels 18 to move the plates vertically. To guide the plates, pins 21 on the body move in sockets 20 on the plates. If material of different grades is to be delivered the plates 13 are fitted with a slidable member operated from outside the body. Alternatively part circular plates may be used. The conveyer 2 is driven by a chain 5 passing round a sprocket 4 on a shaft 3 through a clutch 8, sprocket 6, and chain 7, driven through an intermediate gear box from the engine of the lorry.
