[Also in Groups XXXVII, XXXIX, and XL (c)] A radio or like electrical apparatus comprises two units each consisting of an enclosed boxlike case housing a section of the apparatus and provided with external control devices arranged on the front of the case, the two units being assembled one above the other, the lower unit supporting the upper, and the two cases being hinged together about an axis at or adjacent one of their adjoining edges. As shown in Fig. 1, a control desk console for radio transmitting or like apparatus comprises an upper case 1 and a lower case 2 which is provided with upstanding plates 4, having downwardly inclined slots which co-operate with hinge pins 5 projecting from the end walls of the case 1. By this means the case 1 can be raised on the hinges to permit access to the interior of the case 2 being supported by a toothed segment 7 at each end of the assembly. By releasing push-buttons 11 on the front of the case 2 the segments may be released and the case 1 completely detached from the case 2, and push-buttons 9 on the front of the case 1 release a spring-loaded catch engaging with the teeth of the segment, to enable the case 1 to be supported in any one of a number of raised positions. The units 1 and 2 are supported on a table member 19 supported by the pedestal cases 14 and 15, and a pull-out table 20 is provided. Each pedestal case top may have one or more pegs 17 and preferably two ganged catches 18, Figs. 3a, the table member 19 and case 2 being correspondingly apertured, so that the catches 18 may enter and engage the abutments 20 to lock the case 2 in position. The catches 18 may be released from the abutments 20 by rotation of the spindle 43 by a turn-button on the front of the case 2 which moves a spring-loaded cam 23 from the locking position to the disengaged position, and as the case 2 is lifted off the pedestal case the cams 23 and catches 18 are returned by their springs to their normal positions, the cam 23 being held by a stop 24. The case 1 has a hinged bottom wall 26 which can be opened downwardly and forms a shallow tray carrying telephone jacks 25, attached to line cords and co-operating with sockets 44 on the case 1.
