666,451. Indicating level in a hopper. PREPARATION INDUSTRIELLE DES COMBUSTIBLES. Oct. 14, 1949. [April 15, 1949] No. 26465/49. Addition to 665,409, [Group XXXV]. Class 78 (i). The invention comprises a modification of the invention claimed in claim 2 of the parent Specification, wherein the two electrical connections from the wheatstone bridge respectively to the grid and cathode of the electronic tube are interchanged and the polarity of the D.C. supply to the Wheatstone bridge is reversed. Fig. 2. The resistance between the two electrodes in the hopper are included as Re in Wheatstone bridge W formed of elements a, b, m, Re, potential difference U1 being applied between two corners of said bridge, the resultant p.d. between the other two corners being applied between filament and grid of valve Tu, the H.T. of which is applied through variable resistance W. The resultant p.d. is applied to thyratron valve Th and the current passing through the latter valve 'is measured at M. M shows a sharp change of current reading when the material in the hopper reaches the electrode at the predetermined height. The p.d's used may be alternating, either in or out of phase; and resistances m and Re may be interchanged.
