Abstract

666,297. Ice-making. SIDDALLS ICE CREAM CO., Ltd., and MALLARD, J. T. L. July 4, 1950 [July 4, 1949], No. 17571/49. Class 29 Frozen shaped products such as water ices are made from aqueous solutions in a split metal mould by pre-cooling the mould so as to freeze the liquid in the joints between the sections 1 of the mould to form a seal therein before filling the mould cavity 4 with the syrup &c. to form the frozen shape. The mould sections are located relatively to each other by dowels 2 and have vertical ribs 5 at the back of each half-impression 4 to give added heatabsorbing mass. The mould is first wetted and passed through a cold tunnel to lower its temperature well below freezing point and form at least a partial seal between the two sections. The material to be frozen is then filled into the mould, penetrating into the joint and forming a frozen layer. The mould is then suspended in chilled brine to complete the freezing. In a modification a cooling fluid is passed through the mould for pre-cooling, sealing, and freezing. Clips on the mould hold suitable sticks, and inclined lugs 6 are provided for separating the mould parts after freezing by means of a wedge.
