665,988. Counting-apparatus. CHAMBERLAIN & HOOKHAM, Ltd., .JAMES, S., WEBB, E. A., and DEACON, L. O. March 22, 1949 [April 6, 1948], No. 9583/48. Class 106 (i). A recording mechanism, for use with meters and other measuring instruments, of the kind in which a printed record of the reading of the instrument is made at predetermined time intervals, has combined therewith means responsive to a value of the measured quantity greater than any previously - recorded value to cause a distinctive record to be made of such a value. As shown, counting type discs c may be set by an electrical maximum demand indicator to register the average demand during an interval, and an electric contact j is given a corresponding movement. At the end of the interval, electromagnets f operate hammers e to print on a paper strip a after which the strip is stepped on and the discs c and contact j reset. The contact j operates a freely mounted normally stationary contact k and, if the demand during an interval is the greatest so far, contactsj, k are engaged, thus energizing an electromagnet i which, as shown, operates an asteriskcarrying member, to bring it to a printing position, and may alternatively effect a lateral displacement of the discs c, the strip a or a twocolour carbon strip d.
