665,935. Making paper &c. tubes. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. May 18, 1949, No. 13284/49. Class 99 (ii) In a method of making paper &c. tubes a continuous sheet 3 is folded to tubular form by drawing it between concentric cylindrical guides 8, 9, and a thread or narrow strip 21 of thermoplastic material is drawn between the overlapping edges of the sheet which are subjected to heat and pressure. The outer guide is a plain cylinder with a flared mouth 10. The inner guide is shaped as shown in Fig. 4, is of broken periphery throughout its length and has intermediate overlapping portions 12, 13 between which the strip 21 and the inner edge of the overlapped sheet are run. The guides have slots 15, 16 through which the edges of the sheet are compressed by - a heated roller 17 and by a pressure roller 18 mounted on a spring-urged pivoted arm 19. The tube is taken up in flattened form on a roll 25. The strip 21 may have tensioning means. Slitting or perforating rollers 4 may be provided.
