Abstract
665,786 Centrifugal machines. SOC. ANON. DES USINES J. GALLAY. Aug. 8, 1949 [Aug. 12, 1948], No. 20612/49. Class 23 [Also in Group VIII] A laundering machine includes a washing tank 10 which is rotatable about an inclined axis 17 and has a drain pipe 23 for discharging the water from the tank as a result of rotational movement of the tank, the inlet opening of the pipe 23 being arranged at a distance from the axis 17. The axis 17 is preferably inclined at an angle of between 40 degrees and 60 degrees to the horizontal. The tank 10 is preferably non-cylindrical in shape with unequal ends to enable the clothes to be spin dried. It is driven by an electric motor 15 connected thereto by a belt 16 which rests. directly on the lateral wall of the tank. The wall of the tank is smooth and has no openings, the base being provided with a false bottom 18 perforated round the edge at 19 and. with a removable central portion 20. The device for draining the copper includes a circular channel 22 situated under the false bottom 18, the drain pipe 23 being carried by a fixed hollow supporting tube 24 passing through a hollow supporting shaft 11. The drain-pipe 23 has the shape of a pilot tube and is streamlined, its inlet aperture 27 being situated in the channel 22 and directed against the current of liquid. The tube 24 is connected to a pipe 29 controlled by a two-way cock 30 communicating with an exhaust pipe 31 and a feed pipe 32. The machine includes a cabinet 33 with an aperture 34 coinciding with the mouth 35 of the tank. When the water sinks to a certain level during draining, washing is automatically replaced by drying, and the two operations may be carried out at practically the same speed. In a modified construction, Fig. 4 (not shown), the tank is wider at the top than at the bottom and the fixed drain and feed pipe enters through the mouth of the tank. The clothes are kept away from the inlet of the drain pipe by means of a perforated annular diaphragm near the top of the tank. The motor 15 can be electric or hydraulic and may be directly attached to the shaft of the tank. The tank may be rotated at a greater speed for drying, and it may be fitted with a removable basket for the clothes.
