Abstract

665,116. Making commutators. BOSCH GES., R. Jan. 8, 1949 [Oct. 1, 1948], No. 602/49. Class 83 (ii). [Also in Group XXXV] A moulded commutator is made by gouging hook-shaped chips 30 from the surface of a metal bar which has previously been divided into segments by slots 28 and then bending it round and setting in moulded material, the segments being separated by machining. Sheets of insulating material may be placed in the slots between the segments before moulding and connecting slots or tags may be formed on the edge of the strip. Each segment may have two pairs of hooks and the inner hub may be provided with turned-over annuli on its surface to grip the plastic. It is stated that the process of gouging out the chips may be used on cylindrical blanks. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, states that the commutator may be made by inserting blades, which may be specially shaped to grip the plastic, into lateral slots in the face of a strip which is subsequently bent round into circular form for moulding. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
