Class 58 In a machine for treating grains, i.e. husking, milling, polishing or cleaning, having a grooved rotary husking drum 18 surrounded by a husking jacket 23, the husking drum is formed with a groove which extends helically a plurality of turns around the drum circumference and runs the whole length of the drum. As shown a drum 18 mounted on a driving shaft 19 is provided with perforations 20 discharging into the spaces between the convolutions of the helical thread 21 the first four convolutions 22 being unperforated but provided with inlet slots 43 separated by wall parts 44 so that grain falling from the hopper 31 into the drum chamber below may be directed through the slots into the other convolutions 21 for treatment against the husking jacket 23 surrounding the drum 18 and being perforated apart from the part surrounding the inlet convolutions 22. A wall 18a separates the drum chamber under the inlet convolutions from the rest of the drum chamber from which air from a compressor 42 is fed through the perforations. The rate of feed from the hopper 31 is controlled by a flap 32 rotatable about a pin 33 and is adapted to reduce the feed by the movement of a lever 30 caused by the upward movement of an expansion chamber 26 situated above a vertical longitudinal opening in the husking drum when the grains pile up in the treating convolutions 21. The bottom of the convolutions may be covered by rubber, emery brushes or felt or fitted with pointed iron or steel band and a rasp effect may be obtained by the perforations being directed from the inside to the outside:
