Abstract
664,662. Condensers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 29, 1949 [Sept. 1, 1948], No. 22387/49. Class 37. [Also in Groups VIII and XV] A machine for affixing a plurality of condenser tap straps to a strip of insulating material which is in continuous motion comprises a friction drive roll 62, Fig. 1, which causes an insulating mounting strip 12 to be drawn continuously through the apparatus from a supply roll 10. A conducting strip 14 of which the tap straps are made is fed transversely across the strip 12 by notched feed rolls 15, 16 and by a disc 25 coacting with a sectorshaped disc 26 which also applies adhesive from a trough 33 to those portions only of strip 14 which are to be affixed to the insulating strip 12. Simultaneously with the interruption of the conducting strip 14 feed, when notches 151, 16<SP>1</SP> are adjacent and in alignment, a holding element 36 and a knife edge 35<SP>1</SP> are moved down by the action of cams 48, 49, the conducting strip 14 being severed and a toggle tamper 55 pressing the previously adhesive coated portion of strip 14 on to the strip 12 as it moves along. A modification illustrated in Fig. 2 (not shown), has cam-actuated interruption of the conducting strip friction roller feed, adjustable speed drive for this strip allowing for different widths of insulating strip which may be fed through from the right or left of the apparatus.
