Abstract
664,417. Couplings for vehicles. BELTON, C. A. Feb. 13, 1950 [Jan. 12, 1949], No. 794/49. Class 103(v) A tractor-trailer coupling comprises a forwardly curved hook member d mounted on a bar c, pivotally connected to a bracket a projecting rearwardly from the tractor, and adapted to abut against a rearwardly curved hook member b at the rear end of the bracket, the bar c being adapted to be raised and lowered by a power unit on the tractor and, when raised, to cause 'its hook member to extend upwardly through an eye j<SP>1</SP> carried by a drawbar i on a trailer. A horizontal bolt f is slidably mounted in the bracket a for projection through a hole in the bar c to lock the coupling when in its closed position. A guard h prevents operation of the lock when the arm c is lowered. A rod e attached to the underside of the arm c is raised and lowered by the power operated lift arms e<SP>1</SP> on the tractor.
