Abstract

663,920. Two-part couplings. CAMPBELL, G. A. A. Nov. 15, 1949 [Nov. 16, 1948; Dec. 13, 1948], Nos. 29768/48 and 32191/48. Class 38 (i). In a plug-and-socket connector, one of the components carries within it a movable ejector member in the form of a rigid plunger adapted to engage an abutment surface on the other component and slidable relatively to said one component in the direction for separating the component, the operative end of the plunger being wholly accommodated within the space between the pins or sockets. Either the plug or socket is preferably fixed. Fig. 1 shows a plug in which the plunger 9 is slidable in a longitudinal bore 7 in the plug body, one end having a head 11 for engaging the face of the socket and the other end having a finger-piece 10. The plug body has a finger-piece 5 and a recess 6 receiving the piece 10. Withdrawal of the plug is effected by exerting thumb pressure on the piece 10 together with a pull on the finger grip. The recess 6 may be deepened to increase the travel of the plunger, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 4, the plunger 9 is urged outwardly by a compression spring 14 and is retained in its withdrawn position by a spring-pressed detent slide 17 engaging a notch 15 therein. An operating knob 18 on the slide releases the plunger when the plug is gripped for withdrawal. Fig. 6 shows another modification wherein the upper end of a short plunger 9 is engaged by cams 22 on a pair of levers 23 pivoted at 24 on opposite sides of the plug body. Each lever has a finger grip portion 25 which when squeezed inwards, force the plunger out of the body.
