Abstract

Class 46 [Also in Group XXVIII] A generally cylindrical filter element comprises a sheet of fluid-permeable material disposed in parallel pleated courses each intermediate course being at. opposite ends thereof connected to the adjacent courses, for example by portions of the sheet scored and folded to provide triangular areas. As shown in Fig. 4 the pleated courses 12 are in zig-zag relation connected by the angularly folded portion x, y of the sheet at the change of direction of the courses so as to provide tucks to use the otherwise excess material at these connecting areas. The material sheet so folded is disposed in a generally cylindrical form about a perforated core tube 30 either as shown in Fig. 6 with the folded lines 11 extending radially from the axis of the core tube 30 and the folded lines 17 parallel to the said axis or as shown in Fig. 8 with the folded lines 17 radially disposed and the folded lines 11 disposed parallel to the axis of the tube 30.
