Abstract

661,563. Saw-tooth generating circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 2, 1949 [June 23, 1948; Aug. 19, 1948], Nos. 16806/48 and 21895/48. Class 40 (vi). A saw-tooth wave of desired linearity or curvature is generated by charging two capacitors and discharging them through different electrodes of a valve, integrating one of the saw-tooth waves, thereby produced and adding it to the other. A capacitor 4, Fig. 1, of the Provisional Specification is charged through a resistor 2 and rapidly discharged by a valve 1 arranged in a blocking oscillator circuit. The saw-tooth wave generated at the grid is integrated by means of a resistor 12 and the capacitor 4, thereby linearizing the saw-tooth voltage produced across this capacitor. Resistor 12 may be connected either to the anode as shown or to a further capacitor connected between the lower plate of capacitor 4 and earth Fig. 4 (not shown). In Fig. 5 the separate saw-tooth wave is generated by charging a capacitor 22 through a resistor 21 and partly discharging it through the screen-grid cathode path of the blocking oscillator valve so that the potential applied to a resistor 20 and a capacitor 19 is composed of a steady component and a superimposed saw-tooth component. The output is applied through a coupling circuit 24, 25 to the succeeding apparatus 23 and the synchronizing signal is fed to winding 26. The saw-tooth wave generated at the screen grid may be applied instead to the control grid to increase the linearity of the wave fed from the grid to the output capacitor in the Fig. 1 circuit.
