[Also in Group VIII] In a shock absorbing support for a roller 1 of a paper making machine, an arm 3 connected to a shaft 2 of the roller 1 bears on the free end of a rod which is fixed at its other end to one end of a torsion bar 6 by means of a stirrup piece 5. The other end of the torsion bar is fixed in a frame 11 in which a collar 7 is movable along the bar to vary its operative length by means of a screw-threaded rod 9.
