Abstract

659,262. Flexible couplings. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Aug. 8, 1949, No. 20553. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1948. [Class 80(ii)] In multiplying gearing between the propeller shaft of a ship and an electric generator, the toothed rim 11 of one of the gears is coupled to its nave by resilient means, the spring coefficient of which varies with the load, and adjustable friction damping means 13 are also provided. As shown in Fig. 2, pairs of helical springs are used, the inner spring 8 of each pair coming into action only after a predetermined compression of the outer spring 7. Alternatively, single conical springs may be used. As shown in Fig. 7, leaf springs 18 are used, coacting with curved abutments 22 so that the effective length of the springs varies with the load.
