Abstract

779,420. Screw-and-nut actuators. BRONZAVIA SOC. ANON. June 20, 1955 [March 9, 1955], No. 17692/55. Class 78 (3). [Also in Group XXIV] In a motor-driven screwjack having a torque limiter 16 inserted between the motor 8 and the screw 2, the screw 2 is hollow and the motor 8 is connected through reduction gearing 9 ... 14 to a torsion-rod 15 passing through the screw and splined thereto at its far end. The torque limiter is inserted between gears 10 and 11 and comprises spring-loaded friction discs. The nut head 4 is integral with the slidable and non- rotatable barrel 5 of the jack and limit switches 6, 7 are actuated by a boss 5a on the barrel. Co-operating dog-clutch teeth 17, 18 and 17a, 18a on each end of the screw and nut are provided. If for any reason (e.g. failure of a limit switch) the rotation of screw 2 is not stopped at the end of a stroke the dog-clutch teeth mesh so that torque is transmitted to the barrel 5 (thus avoiding excessive load on the screw flanks) and the torsion rod 15 is stressed until the friction discs 16 slip. If the motor is then reversed the potential energy in the torsion-rod augments the starting torque and the dog-clutch teeth are immediately separated.
