[Class 83 (iv)] A die set for making crown closure shells and like articles in a double-acting press, comprises a hollow punch 4 with a severing edge 22, and a clamping surface inwardly of said edge, a hollow forming member 5 disposed within the punch and adjustable with respect to said punch, a hollow die 16 having a severing edge 23, complementary to the severing edge of the punch, a hollow clamping member 17 secured within the die and having a clamping surface complementary to the clamping surface of the punch, and a forming ram 21 disposed within said clamping member and movable with respect thereto to a position to form the closure &c. upon the second action of the press. The peripheral edges 27, 28, Fig. 6, of the punch 4 and forming-member 5 are rounded to prevent damage to the lithographed surface of the blank 24 and the member 5 is carried by an adjusting sleeve 9 by means of which it may be accurately positioned with respect to the punch 4. An ejector assembly 6 removes the completed article and a stripper plate 15 removes the waste after completion of the forming operation. The cutting edge of the die 16 may be tapered at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the die to progressively shear the blank. The finished article, Fig. 7, has a rounded edge 33 on the inside instead of on the outside or lithographed edge.
