Abstract
659,117. Conveyers. BAKER PERKINS, Ltd. March 30, 1949, No. 8602. Convention date, Oct. 22, 1948. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XL (b)] Articles conveyed on a conveyer are removed by magnetic means which pull the articles along the surface, the removal means being stopped automatically in the event that articles are in a position to interfere with the operation of such means. Articles such as pans A are transferred from a proofer conveyer 2 to a cross conveyer 1 over an apron 4 by means of a magnetized beam 6 which contacts the leading edge while a bar 25 drops behind and assists in the transfer. Electromagnets 7 are mounted in the transverse beam 6 secured to a carriage 8, connected to the driven chain 15 and having wheels 9 running on side flanges of the frame. The pusher bar 25 is secured to a transverse shaft 26 with wheels 27 engaging the flange and has links 28 connected to the carriage 8 and of such length that the bar reciprocates on the lower run of the chains. An upstanding flag 41 is also linked to the bar 25. The bar is raised out of contact with the pans by means of cams 29 at the transfer end and by pivoted arms 30 and adjustable arms 35 at the other end. Four electric circuits control the magnetization and movement of the bar 6 and the cross and proofer conveyers respectively, the circuits being operated by cams UC, MC, CC, PC on a shaft 48 driven from the conveyer shaft. The cams operate switches UC1, MC1, CC1, PC1. Each circuit includes a relay with a switch with byepasses and push-button control. Photo-electric control comprises eyes CI, PI, which cooperate with cams CC and PC which operate to close the circuit and sound air alarm if the pans do not clear the proofer conveyer 2 before being conveyed by the cross conveyer 1 and if the pans move too far along the proofer conveyer before the magnetic bar 6 descends to contact them. A further pair of eyes SI are operated when the bar falls on top instead of in front of a pan the beam being intercepted by the flag 41 to break the circuit. A timing device is included in the bar circuit to close a switch to operate the bar which conveys pans to the cross conveyer. The wheels 9 contact a bar 47 to close a switch C<2> to start the cross conveyers and to stop it members 46 on the conveyer operate a switch C<1>. The beam of eyes PI are cut by the bar 6 as it is lowered into a position to contact a pan where the bar stops and the timer closes. The timer holds for several seconds to allow the conveyer 2 to move pans close to the bar 6.
