Abstract

659,003. Fluid-pressure presses. BRAITHWAITE & SON ENGINEERS, Ltd., I. Nov. 15, 1948, No. 29663. [Class 122(iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] A quick release of pressure from a pneumatic press is obtained by interposing a supplementary valve in the line leading to and from the press, this valve being operated by the exhaust pressure from the usual control valve to provide a large escape path to atmosphere. In an embodiment, pressure air, after passing a shuttlelift control valve, flows through conduits 16, 15 to the press. When the control valve is reversed the pressure supply is cut off and the exhaust flows from conduits 15, 16, through the control valve, and is applied through a conduit 4 to the underside of a piston 6 which rises and opens a valve 10 to allow a rapid exhaust through apertures 14. Layers 17 of wire gauze and an apertured cover 18 serve to silence the exhaust. Valve 10 is loaded to the closed position by gravity and by a spring 19.
