658,827. Refrigerators. KEPKOLD, Ltd., and IVERS, F. W. May 20, 1949, No. 13542. [Class 29] An evaporatively - cooled refrigerator comprises a one-piece open-topped chest 1 of porous ceramic or like material seated in a tray 2 of water, a receptacle 4 in the chest, and a water trough 8 above the chest perforated so that water will flow on to a side wall of the chest. The walls of the tray 2 slope inwardly at 2d and are flanged at 2f spaces being left through which the tray can be filled with water. The sheet metal receptacle 4 has a removable shelf 12 on legs 12b and outwardly extending box-like flanges 6 which rest upon the top edge of the porous chest 1. Water troughs 8 are provided in the flanges and have small holes registering with holes in the flanges through which the water percolates on to the walls of the chest. Projections 5c on the receptacle centre it in the chest. A lid 10 covers the receptacle and the water troughs. Perforations 13, 14 are provided in the walls of the chest and the receptacle to ventilate the receptacle. The inside surface of the chest may be treated with a sealing material to prevent the accumulation of water at the bottom of the chest.
