658,592. Photographic emulsions. KODAK, Ltd. July 22, 1949, No. 19404. Convention date, July 23, 1948. [Class 98 (ii)] A photographic silver halide emulsion is sensitized by the incorporation therein after the formation of the sensitive silver salt of a watersoluble stannous compound in a concentration of from 1 Î 10<SP>-7</SP> to 44 Î 10<SP>-6</SP> mols. per mol. of silver halide. The stannous compound may be incorporated as an acid solution of the chloride, bromide, iodide, fluoride, or sulphate or as an alkali metal stannite. The emulsion may contain optical and sulphur sensitizers. In example (1), the speed, gamma, and fog values are given for samples of a non-optically sensitized gelatino-silver bromiodide emulsion containing no addition and various amounts of an acid stannous chloride solution. In example (2), similar data are given for no addition and various amounts of a sodium stannite solution. The emulsion binder may be gelatin, polyvinyl alcohol, or a partially hydrolysed cellulose ester such as cellulose acetate.
