Abstract

658,220. Platform lifts. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. May 9, 1949, No. 12327. Convention date, May 22, 1948. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] In a lift system of the kind in which the car is guided by rollers thereon which engage fixed guides in the lift shaft, noise is reduced by inserting sound insulating material between the rollers and the car. Rollers 19, 55, 63 which engage one fixed guide 3 are constructed with resilient rims 21, as described in Specification 643,127, [Group XXXIV], and are each supported on the base 31 through elastomer bushes. Rollers 19, 55 are rotatably mounted on spindles 51 eccentrically secured to members 29, which are each supported by a pair of cups 35, 41 integral with the base, and containing elastomer insulating bushes 33, 39 which are adjustably compressed to give optimum sond damping by collars 43, 45 and nuts 49. Slackening of these nuts also allows members 29 to be rotated to adjust the position of the rollers' axes. Roller 63 is rotatably mounted on a spindle 65 secured to one end of a cranked arm 67, the elbow of which is supported on an elastomer spring 91 which urges the roller into contact with the guide 3. The other end of this arm is connected with a member 71 which is resiliently connected to the base 31 by elastomer bushes 79, 81 in cups 83, 85, the member 71 having a nut 89 on each end for pre-stressing the bushes and for axially adjusting the roller 63. In a modification (not shown) the cranked arm 67 is dispensed with and the member 71 is directly mounted on the base similarly to the members 29. In the event of one or more rollers becoming inoperative a slot 31c in the base serves as an emergency guide shoe.
