Abstract
Salts of polymeric polyamines prepared by the process of Specification 652,566 are made by reacting the polyamine with an inorganic or organic acid. The salts may be obtained by mixing the molten polyamine with an acid or by dissolving the polyamine in a solvent, e.g. benzene, toluene, xylene or isooctane, adding the acid and removing the solvent. In a modification the salt may be a pigment obtained by salt interchange between an aqueous solution of an acid dyestuff and a solution of a polyamine salt, e.g. acetate. Specified acids are acetic, lactic, propionic, formic, butyric, decanoic, stearic, succinic, glutaric, adipic, suberic, sebacic, glycollic, malic, tartaric, citric, phthalic, naphthoic, benzoic, picric, carbolic, hydrochloric, sulphuric, sulphamic, hydrocyanic, boric, sulphonic, phosphoric, hypophosphoric and carbonic. Numerous examples of acid dyestuffs are given in the Specification, e.g. benzene-azo-beta-naphthol-6-8-disulphonic acid and 2,21 - disulpho - stilbene - 4,41 - diazo - bis - phenetole. The polymeric polyamine salts may be used as dispersing agents, pigments, pigment binders, and coatings, e.g. on glassware. Aqueous compositions comprising the polyamine salt may be used for treating textiles, paper or leather to make them shrink-resistant, fireproof, waterproof and for colouring plastics, textiles, paper or leather. The composition may include titanium oxide, copper phthalocyanine, calcium sulphide, antimony trioxide, asbestine, methyl cellulose, chlorinated paraffin wax, polythene or formaldehyde.ALSO:Compositions comprising polymeric polyamine salts of organic or inorganic acids (see Group IV (a)) are used for shrink-proofing fabrics and for colouring plastics, textiles, paper or leather. The salt may be an organic paper or leather. The salt may be an organic pigment consisting of an acid-dyestuff and a polyamine, which may be obtained by salt interchange between an aqueous solution of an acid dyestuff and a solution of a polyamine salt, e.g. acetate. The compositions may include titanium oxide, copper phthalocyanine, calcium sulphide, antimony trioxide, asbestine, methyl cellulose, chlorinated paraffin wax, polythene or formaldehyde. Numerous examples of inorganic and organic acids and acid dyestuffs are given in the Specification. Specified salts are polymeric polyamine acetate, carbonate, phosphate, hydrochloride, picrate, and sulphate. Specified organic pigments are a polymeric polyamine combined with benzeneazo - beta - naphthol - 6,8 - disulphonic acid, or 4 - para - sulphobenzene - azo - 1 - ortho, meta - dichloro - para - sulphophenyl - 3 - methyl - 5 - hydroxy-pyrazol. Specification 652,566 is referred to.
