Abstract

Aqueous dispersions containing in the dispersed phase solid organic insecticidal or organic anticryptogamic materials in a state of supersaturated solution are prepared by dissolving the organic material at elevated temperature in a liquid having emulsifying properties to produce a homogenous solution, stirring the solution and adding water at room temperature thereto, the liquid being used in an amount insufficient to dissolve completely the organic material at room temperature and just sufficient to dissolve it completely at a temperature above room temperature and below 100 DEG C. In preparing the initial solution an added solvent may be used; and use may be made of more than one organic material, at least, one of which is solid at room temperature. According to examples, (1) D.D.T. is dissolved in sodium sulphoricinate and cold water is stirred into the molten mass having a temperature of 70 DEG C; (2) D.D.T. is dissolved with heating in a mixture of sodium sulpho-oleate and a soap obtained by the caustic soda saponification of a mixture of olive oil, colophony and light mineral oil, and cold water is stirred into the molten mass having a temperature of 70 DEG C; (3) the procedure of example (2) is carried out with the omission of sodium sulpho-oleate; (4) a mixture of D.D.T. and hexachlorocyclohexane is added in small portions with stirring to a mixture of light mineral oil, sodium sulpho-oleate, olive oil soap and colophony soap and cold water is stirred into the hot mass.
