Abstract

652,092. Hydraulic pumps. SCINTILLA, Ltd. Nov. 22, 1946, No. 34700.. Convention date, Jan. 15, 1945. [Class 102(i)] [Also in Group XXIX] The invention relates to high pressure hydraulic pumps and motors of the type in which a cylinder block having radially disposed cylinders is rotatably mounted on a non-rotatable shaft having inlet and outlet ducts therein and pistons slidably arranged in the cylinders are connected at their outer ends to a spider secured to a rotatable shaft the eccentricity of the fixed shaft with respect to the rotatable shaft being variable. The figures show a hydraulic pump or motor having radial cylinders in a rotary cylinder block 3, a rotor 7 carrying pistons 5 rotating about a stationary axis while the cylinder block is mounted on a non-rotating shaft 2 parallel with and movable in a direction perpendicular to this axis to vary the piston stroke. The shaft 2 is carried by a head 22 which is movable in a guide 23 by means of a threaded spindle 20 and hand wheel 21. In a modification the shaft 2 instead of being carried by the head 22 is supported on a lever which is pivoted about an axis parallel to the axis of rotation movement of the lever varying the eccentricity of the cylinder block to vary the piston stroke. As shown the pistons have enlarged ends 11 which have surfaces which can slide on surfaces 10 on the rotor 7. These surfaces may be formed on separate members fixed in a groove in the rotor by nuts and bolts. Each piston may have an axial passage in it opening into a hollow space 16 so that liquid forced through it relieves the pressure on the foot of the piston. Small passages 11<SP>1</SP> in the foot of the pistons may be provided for lubrication purposes. In another modification the pistons are carried by connecting rods pivoted to the rotor. A coupling 32 positively ensures that the cylinder block and rotor will rotate together. The pump or motor can conveniently be used with other machines, the rotor shell 7 being mounted on the end of the shaft 8 preferably in a bearing of the machine casing. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the non-rotating shaft 2 may be adjusted by means of a servomotor. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
