Abstract
650,464. Photographic gas developing apparatus. TYRRELL, A., and EASTER, J. W. Dec. 11, 1947, No. 32714. [Class 98 (ii)] In developing by the method in which the exposed material is passed over a perforated wall of a chamber containing moist ammonia gas, (a) the material is subjected to the action of the gas while it is moving over the perforated wall, (b) the gas is generated from an aqueous solution of ammonia in a container outside the developing chamber and circulated by a pump in a closed path successively through the chamber and the external container, and (c) the concentration of ammonia solution is chosen from tables so that, at the working temperature, the vapour pressure of the developing gas is substantially equal to external atmospheric pressure. As shown, the apparatus consists of a developing chamber 10 and a container 15 for the solution. Exposed material is passed over a perforated top 11 of the chamber 10 by a conveyer belt 12. Gas is drawn from the container 15 along a pipe 17, and through chamber 10 by a pump 14, and returned to the container 15, which may have baffles providing a circuitous path over the liquid surface. The temperature is controlled by electric elements 20, 21 in the container and chamber respectively, and maintained in the latter about 5‹ C. higher than in the former.
