[Class 87 (ii)] A clay pipe or tube, or a hollow block or other article is extruded vertically downwards from a nozzle 12 and passes through temporarilystationary sleeves 32, 31 which form part of a vertically-rising-and-falling apparatus A, the pipe &c. coming to rest on a platform 18 which is mounted on a rod 19 vertically slidable in another platform 11 forming part of the apparatus. The apparatus A, which carries a manually-operable horizontally-sliding cutting wire 34, then descends under the weight of the pipe, and when the required length of pipe has been extruded the operator passes the wire through the pipe. This cutting operation results automatically in actuation of a trip-lever 38 to release a catch 36, which normally holds the platform 18 up, and the platform then drops on to a resilient buffer 26 on the platform 11, whereupon the cut-off piece is removed by hand. The platform 19 is counterweighted by a lever 21 carrying a weight 22, so as normally to be held in the raised position shown. The whole apparatus A also is counterweighted by means (not shown) connected by ropes, chains, &c. 15 to brackets 16 formed on a box-like member 17 integral with platform 11. Bearings 13 on the apparatus slide on pillars 14. The cutting wire 34 is stretched between the sides 41 of a cutting frame 27 slidable in a housing 28, the frame having a handle 35 for manual reciprocation. Cams 42, 42<SP>1</SP> on the sides 41 co-operate with a roller 40 carried by the upper end of the triplever 38. When the operator pulls the cutting frame towards him from the position shown in Fig. 2 the cam 42 actuates the trip-lever to release platform 11 which thereupon drops with the cut-off pipe. When the pipe has been removed the weight 22 raises the platform 11 again, its upward movement being limited by a stop 25. To cut off a second pipe length the operator pushes the cutting frame, whereupon the cam 42<SP>1</SP> operates the trip-lever. Springs 37, 39 urge the catch and lever clockwise and counter-clockwise respectively. According to the Provisional Specification the connection between the cutting frame and the trip-lever includes rack-and-pinion means.
