Abstract

649,177. Decking. CYC-ARC., Ltd., and AINSWORTH, A. R. July 15, 1948, No. 19050. [Class 113 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] Deck-planking 4 is secured to deck-plating &c. 8 by studs 2 welded at 6 to the plating and carrying spigoted nuts 12 engaging shoulders 10 in the planking through washers 11. A ceramic &c. ferrule 1 has a bore larger than the stud to allow introduction of anti-corrosive compound to the stud, plating and weld fillet, and has internal ribs 6 to centre the stud within the hole 3. In a modification, a standard nut is used in conjunction with a spigoted washer. The planking is preferably secured in position before the two-diameter holes 3, 9 are formed, the ferrules 1 protecting the planking from the heat of the arc during the welding of the stud.
