Abstract

646,885. Bed-pans. WAKEMAN, C. E. June 4, 1948, No. 15172. [Class 26] To relieve pressure on the spine of a user, a bed-pan has a resilient closure formed at its back end. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the closure 15 comprises a horizontal portion 16 with a reinforced head 18, and a vertical portion 17, forming continuations of the flat top 11 and end wall 14. respectively, of the pan 10. The edges of the closure may be bonded to the edges of the pan, or the closure may have recessed heads to fit over bent or beaded edges on the pan. The pan may be made of metal, plastic, or other rigid material, whilst the closure may be made of plastic or rubber, e.g. a resilient plastic closure may be united during moulding, to a pan of thermo-setting plastic. In the form shown in Fig. 7 the closure 28 tapers to a thin edge 29 to correspond with an end wall of the pan which slopes down to the bottom 26, and has an internal recess 30 forming part of the interior of the pan.
