[Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] A fluid-pressure actuator has a conventional piston 21 and a compound piston as in the parent Specification but is characterized in that the valve for controlling the supply of pressure fluid is wholly enclosed within the cylinder. Pressure-fluid is admitted to the cylinder 1 via the inlet connection 3 and passes through conduit 29a to the interior of the expansible element 16 and also past the grooves in the valve piston 11 and the aperture 14 in the metal stop washer 13 into the space behind the conventional piston 21. When the pressure exceeds a predetermined value, the force acting on the front face of valve piston 18 overcomes spring 19 and the valve piston 18 moves to the right, followed by the push-rod 15 and the valve piston 11, which then seats on the sealing ring 10 to trap the liquid behind the piston 21. Fluid is then directed solely to the interior of the expansible element 16 which then exerts an axial force on the part 20 due to the tendency of the arcuate springs 17 to straighten. When the fluid pressure in the inlet drops below the predetermined value the spring 19 will move the valve piston 18 to the left, thereby unseating the valve piston 11 through the action of the push-rod 15 and the fluid behind the piston 21 is released.
