[Class 19] A process of treating bristles, including horse-hair and natural 'fibres, for brushes and brooms, by boiling or steaming in bundles and subsequently dry in g and cooling, is characterized by compressing the bristles against flexing and preventing endwise movement by applying clamping means circumferentially around each bundle for substantially its full length and end covers on each bundle and maintining the clamping means and end covers in situ throughou the treatment. Suitably, the bundle of bristles is housed in a receptacle having a semi-cylindrical bottom, end spaced apart sufficiently to receive the bundle and prevent substantial end movement of the bristles, a curved lid to fit over the bundle, means for clamping the lid down on the bundle so that the bundle is firmly held circumferentially and openings in the receptacle permitting entry and flow therethrough of the boiling water or steam and drying air. The bundles may be used in the form as received from the suppliers. As shown, the lid 18 fits over the bundle of bristles and between the walls 13, 14 ; a length of flexible material such as a cord is bound round the lid and receptacle utilizing the provided slots 20. The bundle itself may be tied by a cord 11. Other Figures (not shown) show similar receptacles provided with two and three pairs of slots and designed to accommodate longer bristles. The Provisional Specification states that the bundles of bristles received from suppliers may be broken up into small bundles and similarly treated in a receptacle wherein the walls and bottom are flat.
