365,879. Beating or cleaning vegetable fibres. TONSBEEK, T., 6, Kerkdwarslaan, De Bilt, Holland. March 26, 1931, No. 9233. [Class 120 (i).] Vegetable fibres are beaten and cleaned in a machine comprising a rotating drum 1, a casing surrounding the drum, blunt transverse ribs 2 on the drum, and an opening 3 in the casing so arranged with relation to the direction of rotation of the drum that, on inserting one end of a bundle of fibres through the opening, the fibres will be beaten in the space between the upper part of the drum and the casing. The projections 2 may be formed by giving the drum an undulating surface or by securing to it an element having such a surface, and projections 5 may be provided on the casing near the opening 3, those projections farthest from the opening being preferably nearest the drum. An outlet 4 for dust &c. is provided at the bottom of the casing. One end of the bundle of fibres being beaten is held by hand or in a mechanical device, or, to avoid turning the bundle, the middle is clamped in a mechanical conveyer and the ends successively beaten by two machines.
