[Class 29] A refrigerant for compression type refrigerating machines comprises a mixture of dichlorodifluoromethane and unsymetrical difluoroethane, the latter being present in a proportion of less than 78 per cent by weight of the total mixture and in a quantity sufficient to increase the pressure of the mixture over the pressure of dichlorodifluoromethane alone. Preferably the mixture is an azeotropic one containing 24 per cent by weight of difluoroethane.
