Abstract

A porous ceramic rod, adapted to be placed in the smoke passage of a tobacco pipe or a cigar or cigarette holder so that the smoke is filtered as it traverses it lengthwise, comprises the fired product of an extruded or moulded body composed of (i) a base material, e.g. clay; (ii) an absorbent material, e.g. kieselguhr or silica gel; (iii) a combustible material having a maximum particle size of one-sixteenth of an inch, e.g. ammonium chloride or peat residue; (iv) a bonding oil; and (v) water. A composition given is: ball clay 3.5 lbs.; china clay 4 lbs.; kieselguhr 10 lbs.; peat residue 4 lbs.; binding oil 7.5 lbs.; water 10 lbs.ALSO:A porous ceramic rod, placed in the smoke passage of a tobacco pipe or a cigar or cigarette holder to filter the smoke as it traverses it lengthwise, comprises the fired product of an extruded or moulded body composed of (i) a base material, e.g. clay, (ii) an absorbent material, e.g. kieselguhr or silica gel, (iii) a combustible material having a maximum particle size of one-sixteenth of an inch, e.g. ammonium chloride or peat residue, (iv) a bonding oil and (v) water. A composition given is Ball clay 3.5 lbs.; China Clay 4 lbs.; Kieselguhr 10 lbs.; Peat Residue 4 lbs.; Binding oil 7.5 lbs.; water 10 lbs.
