Abstract

644,590. Rollers &c. BERTRAMS, Ltd., and ALLAN, J. June 20, 1947, No. 16273. [Class 42 (ii)] [Also in Groups XIII and XXII] A method of fixing jointed metal sheaths to a core as for a roller or cylinder comprises the attachment of clamping abutment members adjacent to the edges of the sections of the sheath, tensioning the sections on the core by applying clamping members to the abutment members, welding the sections together at their edges and then removing the clamping and abutment members. The clamping abutment members may, as shown, be L-shaped bars c welded at d to each edge of the sections of the sheath b, the upstanding member being drilled for bolts e by which the bars may be drawn together and bolts f which form a stop to prevent movement out of alignment. The core has longitudinal grooves g to receive metal from the weld and prevent rotational slip of the sheath on the core. In a modification the clamping abutment members are narrow bars and they are drawn together by separate clamps.
