Abstract
643,906. Pressing lasted shoes. BATA. NARODNI PODNIK. Jan. 13, 1948, No. 984. Convention date, Jan. 20, 1947. [Class 17(i)] An apparatus for smoothing and pressing the over-lasted and tacked margin of an upper on a last has two moulding ports between which the upper, with a last inserted, is forced by a heel support. A lower mould member 3 is fixed in a casing 2 attached to a base plate 1 and has a recess 9 which engages the insole and overlasted upper 6 and in which are V-shaped grooves to pull on the upper. An upper mould member 4 is slidably mounted in the casing 2 and has a cavity 8 to engage the upper part of the toe. A heel support 12 with a removable heel engaging member 13 is connected by a lever mechanism to a hand lever 14. In operation, the last is positioned as shown and the lever 14 is pulled in a direction S1 which moves the heel support forward pushing the toe into the upper mould 4 and then moving it up over the lower mould against which the insole and lasted upper is pressed. To release the last, the lever 14 is returned to its initial position and the upper mould, 4 is withdrawn by a link 26 when a nut 29 engages with a pin 28 of the lever mechanism. The lower mould may be heated by an element 11 to give a partial ironing action . The presses are arranged in pairs for operating alternately on left and right shoes and may be operated by hydraulic or other power means. The pressing action will complete the insertion of any imperfectly driven fastenings used to tack the upper to the insole.
