[Class 142(iii)] A shuttle for hand or automatic threading has a channel shaped threading device positioned in a threading cavity and a thread guiding tube leading to the eye and passing through holes in the threading device. The weft from the bobbin reaches the shuttle eye by way of a slit A, a cavity C, a curved slit D and a tube J. The threading device, Fig. 5, is positioned in the cavity C and comprises front and rear walls connected by a base. The front wall has an extension F<5> to prevent the weft ballooning outwardly. The weft guide tube J passes through holes H in the 'threading device and has a narrow longitudinal threading slit and a wider transverse slit; the latter registers with the weft passage in the threading device. The exension F<5> may be a separate fitting pressed into a hole in the front wall of the shuttle. Alternatively, the weft may be prevented from ballooning outwarly. The weft guide tube positioned in a longitudinal tunnel A<1> beneath the slit A. A bend F' in the extension F<5> comes into use when the weft fails to thread on the first pick.
