Abstract

642,878. Actuation of switches; centrifugal switches. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO.,. Ltd. Dec. 24, 1948, No. 33293. [Class 38(v)] A time switch suitable for use on aircraft where supply voltages fluctuate considerably, comprises a low-voltage electric motor 1 driving through a reduction gear 2-7 a cam shaft 2 having cams 8 which actuate a switch or a bank of switches 10, and the motor speed is controlled by a centrifugal switch in the mains supply to the motor. The centrifugal switch comprises two cylindrical segments 17, 17a mounted on an insulating sleeve 14 on an extension 15 of the motor shaft 13. Brushes 26 on rocker arms 25 carry the supply to the segments which terminate in lugs 18, 18a. The lug 18 supports an adjustable fixed contact 23 which is normally engaged by a movable contact 21. When the motor revolves above a specified speed the contact 21 moves away from the contact 23 thereby opening the motor. circuit, and when the motor speed is reduced the contact 21 re-engages the contact 23.
